ME TOO. Stupid!Dean is one of my biggest pet peeves in fic. I can sort of forgive it if the story is Sam POV because he does always seem to be a little surprised when Dean pulls things like Vonnegut references and making EMF detectors, since he's more book smart where Dean's more street smart, but that wasn't the case in this fic.

Sam wants Dean and Castiel to come to Comic Con with him and Dean keeps complaining, as well as mocking Sam for recognizing a group of cosplayers as being dressed as the Fellowship, which Dean identifies as "a group of people dressed as wizards and something vaguely medieval."

Oooh, yeah. That would have pissed me off.

I can see them having a difference in their levels of geekery. My boyfriend LARPed and geeks out over games and sci-fi authors, but he'll never ever understand or appreciate fandom. He's no less a geek than I am though, even though we're geeky in different ways.

So Dean not getting anime or fandom stuff? I could see that. Dean not recognizing Galdalf? Beh. I'd rather see him and Sam start bickering over whether Legolas had brown hair or blond and whether it was acceptable to have Arwen save Frodo in Fellowship. Castiel being the one to Not Get It would have been far more amusing as Dean tried (and failed) to explain it all to him. Not to mention how much more IC it would have been.

How incredibly irritating.
