There doesn't seem to have been much info on where either of them are emotionally, either. Jared thinks there's nothing much left to explore with Sam -- that sounds exciting. Jensen isn't being reported as saying anything about Dean's issues at all.
I don't mind separation or the impact of new relationships (and I still don't get the horror at Sam becoming romantically involved while they're separated), but I want some confidence that the emotional arc stuff that was in place in the last few seasons is going to go on, that Dean is still affected by depression and drinking, that Sam is still coping with the impact of hell and mental illness.
At least it sounds as though they might be addressing their isolation and difficulty forming new relationships on an emotional level.
