He can turn into pretty much anything he has the mass to construct. This isn't magical shape-shifting, though, where you say "I want to be a dragon!" and you're a dragon. Anything he turns into, Misha has to study pretty extensively. It took him close to two decades to drag one human form out of the uncanny valley.
I'm actually not sure about the self-defense! If you look at very smart, self-camouflaging terrestrial tentacle monsters, they are actually pretty much balls at self-defense; they are good at hiding and running away. So I toyed with the idea of venom or something, but I think the best he could do is get his digestive juices on someone (probably totally ineffective against skin, but will fuck up your cotton shirt real bad). And I think he's stronger, pound-for-pound, than a human.
He doesn't have real teeth or hair. He can only fake their physical properties by handwave shapeshifter handwave.
