I'm the anon who watched my very first episodes of TW while on SPN meme and eeeee so many questions! I'm slowly catching up now on the first season and will be very annoyed when I get to the second season, as that does not seem to be available online AT ALL and I really don't want to have to purchase it on iTunes, since I prefer to watch on my TV and not my computer.
So, bearing in mind that I've only seen like six eps of S1 (the first six) and six eps of S2 (the last eps) and thus have missed SO MUCH STUFF, my answers. :D
Grandpa Tigh's plan made no sense to me. His random kidnapping of Stiles made even less sense. It felt like there was a missing scene there because how exactly did Stiles escape again? Is it just me, or did it go from Stiles in the basement with tortured!wolves suspended from the ceiling to Stiles at home with Lydia randomly showing up? I'm guessing that Stiles freed them and the three of them escaped together somehow but Stiles was acting like he'd sold the others out and IDK how that happened. Stiles didn't seem to know where the warehouse was, after all.
Also, why all the hesitation with Derek and biting Grandpa Tigh? I feel like I missed something there, too. Was it that if Derek bit Tigh, Tigh would be the new Alpha? Or at least a part of Derek's pack and thus someone that Derek couldn't harm? Only it didn't sound like Tigh would have had any issues in harming Derek, so.
(As a side note, back in S1, I've just watched the ep where they're at the school at night and Scott is all "DEREK TOTALLY KILLED THAT GUY" and, uh, does everyone throw Derek under the bus every season?? Because if so, LOL. And aw, honey. They treat you so bad. You need a nice pack that isn't made of teenagers or creepy old dudes.)
I didn't have a problem with the cancer deal because I can see the appeal for a hunter who wants to live (and wants it enough to sacrifice his entire family to do so) in the healing powers of a wolf but I'm also not sure that being a wolf heals injuries created before being bitten? Kinda like the US insurance system and pre-existing conditions. But maybe I'm off there.
Derek/Stiles, okay. I've got nothing. It was a major ship long before they were paralized together and I really don't get it. They've had some cute moments in S1 ("I'm not starting the car!" "I will rip out your neck. With my teeth." *car starts*) but Scott and Derek seemed to have equally as many cute moments. Of course, Scott is gaga over Allison and all but Stiles was gaga over Lydia, it just wasn't requited.
Also, Derek looms better over Jackson than anyone, I'm sorry. There's even connected glowy mystical (sorta) scars involved, ffs! And Jackson was completely naked for at least one of the loomings. How is this not shipped more? D:<
Lydia/Jackson, eh. Because of the eps I've missed, I've also missed all the drama in their relationship. Some bits I really liked, such as Jackson trying to sell her on the sports movie and saying he wasn't going to watch the Notebook again and then slinking into the video store asking where the Notebook was but I'm really grossed out by her downplaying her intelligence for him. And if he really does treat her like crap for most of a season, that's even less reason for me to like it.
IDK how Derek is so bad but I LOVE IT. (Sorry, Derek.)
Isn't an Omega a wolf without a pack? So technically, wouldn't Scott and Derek have been Omegas back at the start of S1, at least until they formed their pseudo-alliance?
Aw, yes. I really love all the parental relationships on this show. I haven't seen all of them (Jackson and Lydia in particular I know little of) but Stiles and his dad and Allison and her dad and how awesome is Scott's mom? Seriously? How amazing is she? I LOL'ed forever at Scott and Stiles panicking and begging his mom to zip up the body bag. :D
Allison/AWESOME OTP, but Lydia can come too.

- Was it just me, or did Grampa Tigh's plan not make make a lot of sense? Like, if he just wanted a werewolf bite to cure his plot-cancer, surely there were easier ways to do it. And why did he kidnap Stiles and then just let him go? None of it made sense!
Yeah, I just wanted to go, "hey, remember that just bitten daughter-in-law you had but let die?"
Or why didn't they know that werewolves could take sickness into themselves seeing how much they hunt and torture those fuckers. And Scott's plan, kinda just came out of the blue as well. Like, it basically hinged on him carrying a tin of pills in a place that can dislodged.
And that's it. IDK, it felt cheap.
And YES WITH THE TRU WUV PLOT! I would've figured that Danny would've been more someone who's held heart (in a non-romantic way, dammit) than Lydia. He didn't tell her shit and he treated her like shit. It's Danny we see him trust, and Danny he respects on some level. WHY ARE YOU SO BAD WITH ROMANCE AND COMMON DECENCY TOGETHER, SHOW.
As for the Sterek thing, there was some early season shippyness in Season 1, and everyone else was pretttty dumb back then, so it set this idea of the Only Feasible Ship. Then suddenly around like ep. 10 or whatever people started getting insta-competent and interesting, it was too late. (For instance, I would ship the hell out of some Scott/Isaac even with my grudge against Scott's dumb. <<; ) And also Slash (because it's turning out to be that kind of fandom, I think).
Derek/Fail is the most canonest thing to ever canon. v___v
Ever wonder why Stiles didn't tell his father he was kidnapped with other people? Just reveal it all?
ERIKA/BOYD YESSSS. THEY ARE ALL EACH OTHER HAVE. ;e;
I side eye Allison after that whole manically evil shtick she pulled for a few episodes and dropped. I have to give it a few more eps before I jump on that bandwagon again.
I think Jackson makes for an awkward looking werewolf, and I lol'ed at his transformation. I was expecting a torrent of water to pour and soak him any moment.

I watched some episodes and had to stop. This show is so bad (and I watch SPN lol) I can't really get into the plot and I want to hit everyone, especially Stiles. But I feel bad for badmouthing a show obviously made for teenagers.
But it's fun bad.
And there lies SPN's problem.

Well yeah, but I can't watch a show where I find everyone annoying and would like to hit them really hard.

Yeah, I just wanted to go, "hey, remember that just bitten daughter-in-law you had but let die?"
I figured he had some other reason for wanting his daughter in law dead? Like he wanted Allison to take over her role in the family, perhaps. He was an awfully manipulative guy.
But also, forgive a newbie here, but does the bite kill most of the time? Or did they only kill Allison's mom because they saw werewolves as uncontrollable monsters who couldn't be taught? (And if so, I am TOTALLY WALKING AWAY WITH THE IDEA THAT THEY'RE A HUNTING CLAN A LA THE CAMPBELLS AND THAT TW AND SPN TAKE PLACE IN THE SAME UNIVERSE AND MADISON COULD HAVE SURVIVED.)

I'm just here because all I care about is Scott and I need all the recs you have with hurt!Scott :)
But see, we never got even a hint that he had a reason to let his daughter-in-law die besides being an evil dick.
Which is fine, but it that could've been a viable solution, why let it go? Why?
They say the bite can kill, but they don't say how big the chance is. most everyone who's been bitten and not killed off has survived a bite.
And I'm thinking they killed Allison's mom because Hunters are basically dicks with shit rules and possibly won't allow for a Hunter to be anything but human or some shit.
Seriously, the whole reason everything went to shit in that universe so far is because Hunters Fuck Up Shit. And everything else is left to put things in order. I WANT THE HUNTERS BEING USEFUL, FOR ONCE.
(SEE, I HAVE THIS HEAD CANON THAT GORDON LEARNED HIS HARDCORE HUNTING FROM A CLAN SIMILAR TO THE ARGENTS. THOUGH I HAVE MADE MY PEACE WITH MADISON THANKS TO FIC.)

True, true, but he really just seemed like an evil dick? Also, what was up with him silently talking to Scott on the lacrosse field? I'm the anon who's missed the start of S2, was he whispering and Scott could pick it up with his nifty keen awesome wolf ears? Or did he somehow telepathically communicate? How did that work?
It feels almost like they lost track of time when it came to S2 and so just randomly skipped ahead and left out a lot of very important thingsin favor of killing Jackson three times LOL poor Jackson I swear and made a lot of LA LA LA STILES IS BLEEDING YOU SEE NOTHING WRONG HERE motions and hoped people wouldn't pick up on it.
I'm pretty sure your reasons are correct. And they are not the Campbells and so do not have nifty keep awesome means of curing werewolvism. Lycanthropy? Whichever. But they did seem very prejudiced against werewolves and considered them less than human, despite all evidence to the contrary. (The whole bit where Allison's aunt is cheerfully taunting Derek about how they cut his sister in half! My heart, just stab it again!)
I want to know what purpose the Hunters really serve, too. Putting down creatures like Peter or the Kanima (Kamina?) sure, okay, because they're killing humans but Derek wasn't killing anyone. Near as I can tell, the Hales weren't killing people. They were just hanging out, being a bit wolfy on occasion.
I get the impression that they used to be crusaders to protect humans, back in the day, but that the generations have been getting progressively crazier. Tigh, Allison's aunt, Allison's mom and even Allison herself there for a bit - they were taking things way, way too far. And I kind of got the impression that Gerald was doing that deliberately? Like, he was winding Allison up so that she'd respond in a very specific way. He was completely down with sacrificing her if needed but if she lived, that was cool too - he was going to make sure she responded exactly as he wanted her to.
(YOU HAVE THAT HEAD CANON BECAUSE GORDON TOTALLY PICKED UP HIS HUNTING METHODS FROM AN ARGENT LIKE CLAN. IF IT WASN'T THE ARGENTS THEMSELVES. I COULD SEE THAT.)

- On the escape from the basement, after the scene where Grampa Tigh beats up Stiles, there's a scene where Papa Argent comes into the basement. Stiles is already gone by this point, it's just the two junior werewolves strung up with electrodes sparking. Mr. Argent talks about all the 'research' the Argent family has done, on things like the effects of different electrical voltages on werewolves. And then he turns the dial on the machine way down and leaves, so I assume they were able to use their own strength to escape after that.
- On the bite question, IDK why Derek was so reluctant, but maybe because it would make Gerard part of his pack? I believe that the only way to be an alpha is to kill another alpha, so just a bite wouldn't do that. I think maybe only an alpha's bite can turn someone, though, so that's why Derek was so essential to Gerard's plan. He could have gotten Scott or his own daughter-in-law to bite him, but since they weren't alphas, he wouldn't have turned. It seems that the werewolf powers enhance the body's own natural defenses, so I could see it might work on cancer.
- Derek does tend to get thrown under the bus a lot. No wonder he's so faily, poor guy. He does sort of need some adult companionship, I think. NOT from Peter Hale, who's a piece of work.
- You are correct about Derek/Jackson. WAY hotter than Derek/Stiles, IMO. I actually kind of ship Stiles with Danny, just a little :)
- Jackson & Lydia both have fairly absent parents (Jackson's parental issues are actually plot-relevant, so I won't tell you unless you don't mind spoilers.) But Scott's mom and Stiles' dad are both deeply awesome, and I didn't care for the Argents at first but they really grew on me. I thought Mrs. Argent's death was really sad, and Mr. Argent comforting his daughter at the end was really hurty, but in the good way.
- I do love Alison.
- An omega is a wolf without a pack? that makes sense, actually. I'm not sure, though.

OP - I think that only an alpha can turn someone, so Mrs. Argent would not have been able to bite him in the cancer. Neither would Scott - it had to be Derek, which makes it all make a little more sense.
- the bite either kills or turns, I think it's just traditional in the Argent family that anyone who turns becomes The Enemy, and so must die.

DA - Ooh! I like the Gordon Walker crossover potential - that makes so much sense!
(The Campbells didn't have a lycanthropy cure that we know of, did they? Just vampirism, and only if the person hadn't fed yet.)
Totally agree that a lot of the craziness in the Argent family came from Grampa Tigh. Didn't Allison's dad actually say something about how Gerald (Gerard?) was going the same thing to Allison that he had done to Kate?

Ah, good point. Hm. Maybe that's why Stiles was so hard on himself? He knew that they were in trouble and just left them there to be tortured. In which case, damn, Stiles. :/ You just had to turn a dial.
Re: Derek and the bite Gerald was saying something in that confrontation about how Scott had to choose Allison over Derek. It made it sound like Scott was having to sell Derek out? Especially since Derek was all "dude don't do this" (only then had absolutely no problem in opening his mouth to bite Gerald?) but that whole thing didn't make any sense to me. I found it pretty confusing. It did sound though somehow as if Scott was being forced to choose between Derek and Allison, that if Derek bite Gerald than Derek's life was somehow forfeit. But IDK.
I agree that it makes sense that Gerald would have needed an alpha to do the actual biting. That was the proof that Derek hadn't bitten Scott, right? Because he wasn't the alpha. Though I'm curious how Derek was all "YOU'VE GOT THE CONNECTION" when wasn't Peter Derek's alpha too? Except Derek didn't know that it was Peter?
The first ep I watched was the one in the police building and so I missed out entirely on why Peter was a Very Bad Man. He came across like a snarky and avuncular version of Balthazar. I actually liked him but knowing what I do now of what Peter got up to in the earlier season, I'm less fond of him. (That I was fond of him to begin with actually weirds me out a bit because I really hated Balthazar.)
I have hopes for Derek and the vet though! There seems to be the potential for friendship there. And maybe Derek can start to hang out with Scott's mom. (Actually, I think I could really ship Derek/Scott's mom. And it wouldn't even be because of how hilarious I'd find Scott's reaction. Okay, not entirely.)
Derek/Jackson is rapidly becoming an OTP as I make my way through the first season. Peter earnestly telling Derek that he had to connect with Jackson's heart didn't hurt this at all, though Derek's continual "but I want to kill him" thing did. Cold, Derek. Very cold.
I'm down with spoilers. :) I know that Jackson's got a lot of issues wrapped up in proving himself worthy of his biological parents but I'm not sure how his relationship with his adoptive ones is. They seemed nice enough in the parent-teacher conference but then they just never seemed to show up again? Not in the eps I watched anyway which makes them a marked contrast with the parents of Stiles, Allison, and Scott. Which doesn't mean they're bad but I'm also not sure how good they are either, since they seem aware that Jackson's got major insecurity issues and aren't trying to resolve them.
I'm a bit lost too how they didn't notice the whole "their kid has been brainwashed and occasionally turns into a giant scaly monster and murders people" bit. They didn't even seem to be at the game when Jackson tried to kill himself - it was Lydia freaking out and holding his head while Scott's mom was doing chest compressions. Shouldn't we have seen some sort of reaction about their son being dead?
Of course, Lydia's parents felt even worse because in their conference, they were all "so she's causing trouble?" and her teacher was all "uh, actually your daughter is a freaking genius with a 5.0 GPA" and they didn't even seem proud of her for it. Plus, they never seem to show up either, though that seems to bother Lydia less.
Allison is awesome. :D Or is it Alison? Either way, she's freaking fantastic. I'm a bit lost on why she was so nonchalant about torturing people, though. I'm putting that up to Gerald having some sort of whammy on her somehow. It seems plausible, given that other forms of mind control are good to go on this show.
I'm not sure if it's canon re: omegas but I think Derek said something about it to Scott in early S1.

We don't know if they had other cures because unfortunately, Sam and Dean never asked and then they all got killed off. D:<
That sounds familiar and it wouldn't surprise me at all. Though now I want to know how Allison's dad escaped it! He was Grampa Tigh's biological kid, right? So why did Tigh concentrate on Kate and Allison alone? Unless Gerald just saves his creep for female members of the household which, possible, but squick.

Unless Gerald just saves his creep for female members of the household
This seems very likely, ugh. Maybe it has to do with the whole "women are the generals" thing, like in his mind the boys are trained to follow orders so he he doesn't need to worry about them, he just needs to manipulate the women into his scary mind-set.

It's Danny we see him trust, and Danny he respects on some level.
That's a really good point, nonnie. I would have loved it if Danny had been the one to call him back, as a friend. Also, I ship Danny/Stiles, a little :) Basically, show needs moar Danny, is what I'm saying.
Derek/Fail is the most canonest thing to ever canon. TRUFAX. I thought he was just a jackass at first, but I'm starting to feel really bad for him now, he's just such a fuckup.
Ever wonder why Stiles didn't tell his father he was kidnapped with other people? Just reveal it all?
Yeah, it might have helped. I hope now that Scott's mom knows, Mr. Stilinsky will be next. Those kids are in dire need of adult supervision. I kind of like the fact that they are flailing around and screwing up like real teenagers might in such a situation, but it would be nice for them to have some backup.
ERIKA/BOYD YESSSS. THEY ARE ALL EACH OTHER HAVE. ;e; Poor bbs, I just want to wrap them up in nice fluffy blankets and feed them soup.
I side eye Allison after that whole manically evil shtick she pulled for a few episodes and dropped.
This may be the only thing we disagree on, nonnie. She lost her aunt and then her mom, was being lied to and manipulated all over the place, felt helpless and out of control, so took the control she thought she was supposed to have. And then Gerald in her ear every moment, whispering poison - it's no wonder she went off the rails a bit. I think she did some pretty ugly things, but I don't find her unsympathetic at all.

Not sure if anyone's left on meme, but I seek knowledge. My paid account expires tomorrow so I want to know meme's stance.
1. What type of account do you have? (Basic, Plus, Paid)
2. If Basic, why haven't you upgraded to Plus? Paid?
3. If Plus, other that cost, why haven't you upgraded to paid?
4. If Paid, is it worth the price?
For Paid members:
5. What was the best selling point for a Paid account for you? Userpics? Stats? More subscriptions?
6. Do you think a paid account is worth the cost?

If Spanky really killed meme, I guess whoever's left here is a zombie!nonnie.
So, hello fellow zombie!nonnie. *waves*

First I didn't have money; now I don't want to give money to LJ because it's fucked around with its userbase too often.

-Gerard's plan made NO sense. Idg how he was so strong when he was dying of cancer. Idk why he even needed the kanima if he just wanted the bite. Idk why he kidnapped Stiles - maybe for Derek's location? I DON'T UNDERSTAND.
-I only ship Sterek in fanon. Hardly makes sense in canon, and there are so many better ships, too. I legit ship everyone with everyone else (with some small exceptions).
-It really did. I also like them as a couple, but I think they're two people who bring out the worst in one another. And I hated that Lydia was apparently the ONLY one Jackson loved enough to revert back to himself. WHAT ABOUT DANNY, DAMMIT?
-He...just is.
-FUCK YES, ERICA/BOYD! I hated Erica/Isaac so much, because I like them as BFFs, so I was glad when that ship sailed, pun intended.
-Yup, there's an episode called Omega with a hobo!Omega. I'm...not sure if the Alpha Pack thing impresses me. We'll see.
-A lot. ;A;
-I could dig it. Does that mean Isaac can have Scott? :D?

1) Paid when I can afford it. Basic the rest of the time.
2) I would never use Plus.
4) I used to, but I don't LJ much anymore except meme & LJ's business practices no longer encourage much customer loyalty
5) Ability to subscribe to individual threads instead of just whole posts. No ads.
6) This is the same question as 4.

I'm thinking about writing some Avengers fic, but I don't know where to start. Are there challenges or fic exchanges somewhere?
I just finished reading this really amazing fic, in a fandom I know nothing about, Persona 4. Don't let that stop you either. It's a really long, h/c fic with unhealthy adult/minor relationships and eventual rescue/recovery. I loved it. Here's the link: http://sympathy-crime.livejournal.com
Hijacking the thread to say that I am very excited that a WiP I've been following in Sherlock BBC fandom was just updated for the first time since January! I squeed when I saw it.
If anyone else is interested it's a His Dark Materials fusion: http://blind-author.livejournal.com/tag/the%20republic%20of%20heaven
