OT Post

For all of your Off-topic needs.

Everwood

You guys, I just started rewatching Everwood and it's not half as good as I remember. :(

I want to bang Ephram and Amy's annoying, babbling heads in. Their fast mumbling makes me rage. They're worse than Seth on The OC, but not nearly as cute. The only thing bringing me joy is Dr. Abbott and his interactions with everyone else. His mom is ok, too.

Oh God, what happened? How can my tastes be so radically different in just a few years???

Dear Diary Meme's OT post,

I was at a fundraiser dinner for a school friend the other night, and only one of my other friends managed to show up. She had invited an old high school buddy, and while they were both very nice and friendly, they spent the majority of the evening talking to each other about old times (understandable!) and texting (less so) while I sat there like the most awkward third wheel to have ever been an awkward third wheel. Why, Meme, why do people think it's okay to text through dinner while in the company of real life people? I regretted going. :(

I do not know why people do that. It drives me crazy. I have a friend who's roommate always sits and texts the whole time whenever we get together to the point that I don't want to go anywhere with her. My friend is very offended by this like I'm making too big a deal of it.

(Anonymous) 2011-05-09 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks for commiserating with me, despite my egregious lack of a title. Yeah, it's just incredibly frustrating trying to interact with someone with their fingers glued to their cellphone keys. Too bad your friend doesn't get why it might bother people.

Leverage Hangouts?

(Anonymous) 2011-05-11 08:04 am (UTC)(link)
Where do the Leverage people gab? I want to drink beer and read about the fallout from ConCon2 being canceled. But, the Rixxistix boards are quiet, the ACK boards are gone for some reason I have yet to suss out and the only LJ I know of is quiet.

Meh, since I am being good and posting in the OT threads, I likely wont get an answer. Ah, well.

I am glad it didn't work out. They were pricing it like an SPN Creation Con even though they didn't have the full cast. Many of us were willing to forgive the problems of year one, but not at those prices.

I don't watch Leverage, but let's cry together about not having a place to talk about other shows. I just started watching VD but their anonmeme is dead, their TWOP board is full of fapping over Damon who I can't stand (and I'm not registered there) and imdb is filled with random threads (kind of like SPN's CW Lounge) and unnavigationable. :(

That does suck. For me, a lot of the fun of fandom is discussing stuff. I guess I've mostly been lucky with my fandoms. Though, I really want to know why Always Christian Kane deleted their boards. There was a nice fan community over there who seemed very invested in their group.

Maybe because VD and cast is emotionally vapid and there isn't much to say about them except "PRETTY!"?

ayrt

This is true. I have no investment whatsoever in any of the characters, except maybe vampy!Anna who suddenly popped up in the library. The actress has a certain charm, but I'm pretty sure she's not for long so I won't get attached. Anyway, watching with no emotional connection and just enjoying the ride is kinda nice.

I don't watch either of these shows, but thanks to the lack of a space in which to discuss DAII that isn't infested with racists and worse, I feel your pain, nonnies. :(

I wish there was a place to talk about GOT. Or more to the point, I wish the anon meme hadn't died.

I just finished reading the first book and I need someone to hold me.

Thank you nonnie. I'll try not to get too many tears on your clothing. I just...need a moment.

There's TWoP. I know it has a bad reputation around here for good reason, but the GoT board is new and hasn't had time to develop much of a skewed perspective. They are very particular about where people who have read the books are allowed to post, but that's it.

It's here if you want to take a look. http://forums.televisionwithoutpity.com/index.php?showforum=1193

Thanks for the link nonnie, I'll look into it. I really don't tend to like forums but at this point I might swallow that distaste and join in anyway.

I really have not been running into that on the dragon_age LJ Comm. But I guss I don't read every post?

hoarders

(Anonymous) 2011-05-14 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Is there a place on LJ to discuss this show? Is there a fandom presence on LJ at all?

I kind of need this in my life.

Re: hoarders

(Anonymous) 2011-05-14 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
What's it about? Right now I'm thinking of those sick people who hoard thousands of animals to 'save' them, yet are unable to care for them and often let them die a gruesome death.

Re: hoarders

(Anonymous) 2011-05-14 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a reality show about compulsive hoarders. Some of these houses are just... awful. Filthy. Things packed to the ceiling and spilling out of their houses. They go in and help them clean it up.

When I was a kid I had a friend whose mom went from being a normal housewife to slowly becoming an animal hoarder over the years. Just as we started high school and it started to get noticeably bad to the point that the mom couldn't successfully lie about it anymore to authorities they moved to another town four hours away. That was the last I knew of them. Of course back then (80s), nobody knew animal hoarding was a mental illness or that this was something that could happen to people. It was just very weird watching it happen and how it wrecked their lives. I've always wondered what happened to that family, especially my friend.

My mother was one, and watching it up close is, yeah, bizarre. She had to be hospitalized for unrelated reasons just as it was starting to hit critical mass, and that was terrible, but also kind of a boon for the animals, for me (as the person struggling to take care of her animals, because she wouldn't, and often actively undermined my efforts to take care of them, because it wasn't real to her), and for her.

There is also a show that deals with animal hoarding. It's on Animal Planet, I think?

There was this one episode where these two old people had like over 40 cats living in their house on top of the normal hoarding mess. They were facing prosecution for animal cruelty and they had animal control in there to help get the cats out. In the end they pulled 70+ cats from the place. At least 30 of those were skeletons.

These were two old people. The lady had had a stroke and the man didn't look too stable either. They adopted strays in addition to the cats they chose. I don't think they had any, or many, neutered. I just don't even know what to think in a situation like that, you know? It's a pretty sad and emotional show all around but this episode was particularly heartbreaking for me.
